the starting point!!

‘by virtue of being born in the digital age, our students are digital natives by definition’ (Prensky 2010:64):

‘today’s students think and process information fundamentally differently from their predecessors’ (Prensky 2001:1)

My preceptions: It appears that twenty-first century photography and media students and teachers’ are expected to be experts with digital technologies and to take advantage of online distribution, social networking methodologies and cloud-based software to both formulate and exhibit outcomes.

‘candidates engage with contemporary media technologies to produce a media portfolio through a combination of two or more media and then present their research, planning and evaluation in electronic format (specification ‘OCR 2009 GCE Media Studies v4 July 2009 pg 4)

Candidates entering production coursework for this specification will be at a serious disadvantage if teachers are unable to provide training for them in the use of the particular software and technology. They will be at a further disadvantage if there is insufficient technology for them to use.( specification ‘OCR 2009 GCE Media Studies v4 July 2009 pg 10)
